Areas We Serve · Clay County, Missouri
Liberty has been a county seat since 1822. On top of that, it has held one of the most consolidated school catchments in Kansas City for almost as long. Meanwhile, the Historic Square sits at the heart of 15 National Register districts. Our crews show up knowing how to handle a pre-Civil War home off Mill Street. We also know how to manage a new-build in Wyngate Estates and a faculty residence on the William Jewell hill.
What Sets Liberty Apart
Liberty has been the seat of Clay County since 1822. Furthermore, the Historic Square still anchors more than a dozen National Register districts. On top of that, the Liberty 53 School District covers almost the entire city. It also stretches into large parts of unincorporated Clay County. That consolidated catchment is rare in the Kansas City suburbs. Each of those realities changes how we plan a Liberty move.
The Clay County Courthouse Square sits inside 15 National Register historic districts. In fact, many homes around Mill Street and Main date to the 1800s. On top of that, the narrow doorways, the pre-electric stairwells, and the older porch turns all change the equipment we bring. We measure and plan before move day.
Liberty Public Schools cover roughly 85 square miles. That is well beyond the 29-square-mile city limit. Notably, almost every Liberty address feeds into one of the eleven Liberty 53 elementary schools. We confirm school assignment with the district before locking the move date.
Liberty sits entirely inside Clay County. Specifically, that simplifies the recorder paperwork relative to the Cass or Jackson County splits we see south of the river. For example, deed verification and the Clay County personal property declaration come from a single office. We coordinate the timing in advance.
Our Process
A Liberty move usually involves one of three layers. For example, a relocation into a Liberty Hospital or Hallmark distribution role on the east side of town. Other times, a family transfer into the Worthington Farms or Wyngate Estates new-construction subdivisions. And sometimes, a downsize out of an 1875 Italianate home in Groom’s Addition. Here is how we work through each.
In particular, we verify your destination falls inside Liberty 53. Some northern-edge addresses sit inside the Kearney R-I district instead. Additionally, we contact the Clay County Recorder for deed timing and the HOA for any subdivision involved. That paperwork gets locked in before move day.
A pre-Civil War home around the Courthouse Square needs a narrow-doorway plan and a heritage-protection walkthrough. Meanwhile, a William Jewell faculty residence on the campus hill needs a tight-driveway plan. And a Worthington Farms new-build off MO-152 needs a long-cul-de-sac protocol. We measure each property in advance.
The I-35 and MO-152 interchange on the southwest side of Liberty rebuilt in 2020. Even so, morning Hallmark and Liberty Hospital commutes still slow the ramps. As a result, we usually start load windows after 9 a.m. or finish before 3 p.m. We also keep a backup route through Kansas Street and MO-291 ready.
Liberty sits inside Tornado Alley. The May 4, 2003 F2 tornado proved the point when it tore through downtown and the William Jewell campus. Of course summer heat in the upper 90s also slows long stair carries. We monitor the National Weather Service through move day.
Once the load is in, we walk the origin home and the new property with you. That said, we check garages, basements, attics, and any outbuildings before the truck leaves either address. No loose ends.
Who Calls Us
Liberty 53 Schools and Liberty Hospital combine for more than 4,000 jobs inside the city. Meanwhile, Hallmark plus Amazon add another 3,000-plus on the distribution side. Here are the six groups our Kansas City crew moves most often into and out of Liberty.
Nurses, teachers, and administrators relocating for the city's two largest employers.
Professors and administrators moving for the 175-year-old hilltop campus.
Logistics professionals transferring into the Liberty I and Liberty II Hallmark facilities or the Amazon fulfillment center.
Households moving into the new-construction subdivisions on the north and west sides.
Owners of the 1800s homes around Mill Street, Groom's Addition, and the Jewell-Lightburne district.
Executives and staff relocating for the two national headquarters anchored in Liberty.
Liberty Move Questions
Liberty Public Schools cover about 85 square miles of Clay County. That is well beyond the 29-square-mile city limit. In particular, almost every Liberty address feeds into one of the eleven Liberty 53 elementary schools, four middle schools, or two high schools. For that reason, we contact the district transportation office directly to verify the assignment. A handful of northern-edge addresses fall inside Kearney R-I instead, so verification matters.
The Clay County Courthouse Square and the surrounding 15 districts have narrower streets than newer Liberty subdivisions. They also enforce stricter parking rules. In particular, the South Liberty and West Liberty Courthouse Square Historic Districts limit overnight commercial vehicles. For that reason, we use a smaller truck for the load and coordinate temporary parking with the city beforehand. That keeps the move legal and protects the historic streetscape.
The college sits on a hilltop directly west of the Historic Square. Furthermore, the surrounding faculty rentals and Jewell-Lightburne Historic District homes share narrow access roads. For example, the campus driveways, the pedestrian crossings during class hours, and the older homes around Jewell Hall all require advance planning. Notably, we route around the campus during academic-year peak times so our truck does not block student traffic.
Groom’s Addition includes 1875 Italianate residences. The Jewell-Lightburne and Arthur-Leonard districts also hold dozens more pre-1900 homes. In particular, the doorways are narrower than modern code, and the stairwells are tighter. Plus, many porches were never built to handle modern sectional sofas or king beds. We bring smaller dollies, extra wall protection, and a pre-move flag list. Even so, we keep the crew sized to finish the same day.
Ferrellgas operates the headquarters for the second-largest US retail propane provider here. B&B Theatres anchors a multi-state cinema chain from Liberty as well. Meanwhile, Hallmark moved its main US distribution hub into Liberty in 1972 and added the Liberty II facility in 2023. For that reason, we coordinate origin-side packing, the long-haul drive, and the destination-side unload as one continuous move. Additionally, we work directly with corporate relocation specialists when a paid move benefit is involved.
Liberty sits entirely inside Clay County. For that reason, the deed recording, the personal property declaration, and the homestead exemption all go through one recorder. Specifically, that contrasts with markets like Lee’s Summit where some addresses cross into Jackson or Cass County. Of course, the timing of recording still matters for your closing date. We coordinate the truck arrival around the Clay County Recorder office hours when needed.
Our Service Area
Liberty is the 21st-largest city in Missouri. It is also one of the most history-rich communities in the Kansas City metro. We cover the Historic Courthouse Square and the surrounding 15 districts, the William Jewell hilltop, and the older Mill Street neighborhoods. Furthermore, our service area extends north to the Hallmark Liberty II distribution hub. We also cover the Worthington Farms and Wyngate Estates new-construction corridors to the west. Our drivers know which I-35 ramps clog during the Hallmark and Liberty Hospital commute. Notably, we plan move-day routes around the courthouse parking restrictions inside the National Register districts.
Liberty Service Boundaries
ZIP Code 64068 covers the city of Liberty. The service area runs from the Missouri River corridor to the south and the Kearney city line to the north. It also extends to the Kansas City Northland edge across I-35 to the west and the unincorporated Clay County boundary on the east.
